Botetourt Press and KHK Publishing

Picture
Botetourt Press began in 1997 with principals S. Dean Olson, director of publications of the College of William and Mary, and Wilford Kale, former senior writer and bureau chief of the Richmond Times-Dispatch. The project was independent of the college and the newspaper.

The first publication was Goal to Goal—100 Seasons of Football at William and Mary, published on behalf of the William and Mary Athletic Educational Foundation in 1997.

Other publications followed, but after the death of Mr. Olson, Kale incorporated Botetourt Press as an imprint of KHK Publishing Company of Williamsburg.

The first KHK/Botetourt Press book was Hark Upon the Gale—An Illustrated History of the College of William and Mary in Virginia. It was published in 2007, and continues to enjoy a warm reception among history aficionados as well as fans and alumni of the College.

In 2010 the second book, Sidemen – Chronicle of a Neverending Dance Band authored by Michael Hassell of Hampton, Virginia, was published.

Currently, two new books are in the works for Botetourt Press: a history of the Rockefeller family in Williamsburg, and a military history of the College of William and Mary.

Just out in time for Christmas, 2012, is A Very Virginia Christmas, edited and compiled by Mr. Kale. This charming compilation of tales and histories from Virginia's past and present will be a refreshing gift for Christmas lovers and Scrooges alike. The twenty-two contributors include Mr. Kale as well as Parke Rouse, Jr., Booker T. Washington, and Earl Hamner of The Waltons fame. They and other writers share their real and imagined stories that remind us of the fun, the grace, the generosity and the spirit of Christmas in Virginia. (Pub. Parke Press Oct. 2012)
